The Kind of Business Coaching Support That Helps You Act

September 13, 2026•4 min read

Business coaching support can help you act when you already know the steps, especially when fear or hesitation makes the clear direction feel difficult to follow.

When calm and clarity become part of the care

“I will call you back in thirty minutes, and I will continue to check on you every thirty minutes,” Nurse S said.

Thirty minutes later, my phone rang.

She asked what my symptoms were now, what had decreased, and whether I was experiencing anything new. I told her what was happening after my allergy shot, and she took a breath. Her voice slowed as she said, “Sora, it is time to go ahead and use your EpiPen, and then go to the emergency room.”

Breathe, dear reader. I was and am okay.

I was not going into shock, but my allergic reaction warranted some extra support because it was not getting any better. I could still breathe. The rash was growing, and my nose was stuffy. There was also a slight wheeze when I inhaled.

Nurse S was incredibly calm and very clear. I was not overly anxious, and I did not feel a huge amount of fear. I laughed and said, “I really don't want to do this.”

“And you can,” she said.

That was the sentence I needed.

She had me read the directions. She stayed with me as I moved through each step, and she cheered me on. Then my husband drove me to the emergency room.

An hour later, while I was still in the hospital, Nurse S called again.

I needed to stay for three hours so the hospital team could make sure I was completely fine and that the reaction was not rising again. Every person I met there was warm and attentive. They smiled. They explained what was happening clearly, and they asked whether I needed anything, including a warm blanket.

Knowing the steps is not the same as taking them

I keep thinking about the way Nurse S held that experience with me.

She shared information I did not have, but her care was not only about giving me the right instructions. She had a particular way of speaking that allowed me to hear those instructions while I was overwhelmed. She listened to my resistance and hesitation. She did not dismiss the part of me that really did not desire to use the EpiPen or go to the emergency room.

She listened, and she remained clear about what came next.

It was not that I had no idea what I needed to do. The directions were already in my hands, clearly written on the EpiPen. Even so, I needed someone beside me who could help me process what was happening, keep me on track, and remind me that my hesitation did not have to stop me from taking the action that would support me in the long run.

To me, that is what an incredible coach does.

I have written before about what happens when coaching feels easy, and this experience showed me another part of that work: the support that helps someone act when the steps are already clear.

What business coaching support can hold

There are moments when knowing the steps is not the same as being able to take them alone. Fear, worry, and hesitation can make even a clear direction feel impossible to follow. The right support does not take the choice away from us. It helps us stay grounded enough to make it.

This is the kind of support I pray I continue to offer my clients, and it is what I am devoted to holding inside LUSH Business Mastermind.

The Luminaries often know the steps. They hold so much wisdom and have already created meaningful work in the world. Sometimes what they need is someone beside them who can listen to the resistance, help make the directions clear, and stay present while they take the action themselves.

Inside LUSH Business Mastermind

The fellow Mastermind Luminaries bring their own warmth to that experience. They ask what is needed. They celebrate one another, and they help make sure no woman has to build every part of her business alone.

May I listen to the resistance without letting it lead. May I make the directions easier to understand when someone feels overwhelmed. May I stay close enough to cheer her on as she does the hard thing herself.

I am still following this breadcrumb from Nurse S, who heard my “I really don't want to do this” and answered with the clearest kind of faith: “And you can.”

LUSH Business Mastermind is the sacred business container where I hold this kind of support alongside the Mastermind Luminaries. If you recognize the support your business is asking for, learn more about LUSH Business Mastermind and write to me so we can begin with a conversation.

My Commitment

to Social Justice + Equity

Honoring diversity through creating inclusive spaces

As a student of social justice, I am actively listening and learning, trying my best to bring about systemic change. I may falter at times but hope that I humbly continue to dismantle cultural appropriation, racism, gender binaries, and other social issues within my business and as part of my personal growth. I shall continue doing the work.

Land Acknowledgment

To those who came before me

I honor the Elders past, present, and emerging

I, Sora Schilling, acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral homelands of the Tuscarora, Lumbee, and Catawba. I respectfully also honor the Lenape, Canarsie, and Wappinger people as the original stewards of the land I was blessed to be born on and resided in for most of my life. Lastly, may I take this time to give great thanks to my Korean ancestors.

The lands in and around present day Raleigh are the homelands and gathering places of the Coharie, Eastern Band of Cherokee, Haliwa-Saponi, Lumbee, Meherrin, Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Sappony, and Waccamaw Siouan.
